★CHECKPOINT GUANABANA is a new music project founded by Alejo Marulanda & Hermano Simón, two Colombian Berliners that together with some of the most representative musicians of Berlin´s Latin-scene are putting their twist on the sounds of Global Bass & Electronic Music LIVE, creating AFRO-LATIN rhythms like merengue, cumbia, salsa, merecumbé or timba (amongst others) combined with POWER-FUNK, HIP HOP and one of their most important influences: The ELECTRONICA from Berlin, their headquarter.
ON THE TURNTABLES
After Show Tropical Dance Party all Night Long with
Dr. Sócrates (Vigo / Berlin)
★ Strictly Vinyl Afro Beat meet Latin Vibrations on the Turntables ★
★ Dr. Sócrates is a Dj and he really have a Dr. in addition. Author, writer and Art Exhibition curator based in Berlin he come from Galicia in North of Spain. Dr. Sócrates has been djing in Berlin for more than ten years in the underground scene, his mix between Afrobeat, Latin, Boogaloo, Reggae, Black Music and much more is the result of a tireless and thorough search for the Beats and Artists that not belong to the music main stream business, thus Dr. Sócrates spins always a lot of surprises with music that you really want to listen but you do not know how.
Bongo (Cali / Berlin)
★ La Regla Legend ★
★The Bongo´s style is like a journey through time. He mixes the Boogaloo the 60s, with the hard salsa of the 70’s from New York, the modern rhythms of Afrobeat and contemporary Latin Hip Hop and the Caribbean music. His performance is an invitation: Your feet will be dance, your ears will be surprised and the head in amazement.
Show respect! Good behavior is a must! Against homophobia and discrimination
all regulars of our events know that Tropical Diaspora cares not only about Music, but about everything and everybody related to our events, from the people that work here to the music selection we play and the bands we engage for the live shows. We don’t only go to a venue and do some event for our pleasure, but we try to involve everybody in our matter. For example, in the venue YAAM where Tropical Diaspora has its origins, in this place every single person that works on the day of our event is part of it: starting from the cleaners to the people tending the bar and the technicians and of course – most visible – the bands and guest DJs. A few years ago, at the first big event – Tropical Diaspora was still called Brazil Roots – we started with a Charity event for a great social institution in São Paulo.
To remember this tradition in a time where the refugee situation is becoming grim reality for more and more people, we at Tropical Diaspora would like to invite everybody to bring some contribution, i.e. donation for the refugees in Berlin to our events. An immigrant myself, I remember the first thing I needed was a dictionary, and you can easily imagine that the refugees in Germany would need one urgently.
Here is our suggestion to all guests at the Tropical DiaporaEvents in Berlin:
★ ONE DICTIONARY = ENTRANCE DISCOUNT ★
COLLECTION @ YAAM “PASSWORD TROPICAL DIASPORA”
So, for our first campaign we would like to ask you to bring along dictionaries of the following languages:
Please spread the word and check your network for the dictionaries mentioned above; let´s not only party, but let’s dosomething meaningful for the people entering a new modern diaspora in these days!
Thank You, Kind Regards! Garra.
